Ad of the decade

There are of course hundreds of award ceremonies for advertising, but “ad of the decade” is a pretty huge honour.  And AdweekMedia have selected Apple’s “Get a Mac” campaign from TBWA/Media Arts Lab as the winner.

This campaign, which first aired in 2006, is all about two people; the cool, laid-back Mac owner said to be based on Steve Jobs, and the geeky PC owner in the image of Bill Gates, who has all sorts of problems. We still remember (and love) the first ads, which succeeded in making Apple look cool and PCs look pretty dreadful, all in a humorous way. And if you have a quick look at Apple today, compared to pre-2006, the impact should be pretty self-evident too, so a worthy winner all round.
